With its chartreuse storefront, the new store at South Coast Plaza might seem alien. Except this luxury boutique belongs right where it is, between Gucci and Bottega Veneta.
Miu Miu, the “alternative” version of Prada, opened its bright green doors Saturday. Named after Miuccia Prada, the Italian line now has six boutiques in the United States: Rodeo Drive, Honolulu, Miami, two in New York and Costa Mesa.
Pieces from Miu Miu’s fall/winter ‘09 and spring ‘10 collections fill the store’s three sections. A more muted green brocade covers the walls and the furniture inside.
The entryway is all about accessories. Pastel-colored bags with thick braided straps or jeweled chain straps line the walls. The bags cost $1,200 to $2,000.
Smaller handbags covered in sequins sparkle from the center. This one pictured is exclusive to the South Coast Plaza store and costs $995.
Sunglasses and small leather goods are also featured in the first section.
Shoes, which run from $480 to $1,600, fill the middle section. Selections include flats with sequins to match this bag, sculpted boots and brightly colored pumps.
In the rear is the ready-to-wear collection, featuring fanciful dresses and luxe separates. The sparsely filled racks hold a jacket with a cumberbund, cardigans, tiny denim shorts, nightgowns, a giant chunky sweater, flouncy skirts and bras.
The most expensive piece is a $3,135 brown leather trench coat.
Miu Miu was first scheduled to open in March in a space next to Macy’s on the second level. Prada will be opening there instead next spring.
You’ve got to be kidding, that handbag is hideous!
Can someone please tell these designers that we’re not all 15 year old girls? Oh and while you’re at it, remind them that half this county is out of work…they might have been smarter opening a Salvation Army in this spot.
